Instructions on the procedures for registration/cancellation of residence/stay, or change of aliens' address of dwelling


A competent police administration/police station:
  • An application for registration/cancellation of residence/stay*1 for aliens shall be submitted at the competent police administration/police station (PU/PP) according to the place in which aliens wish to register their residence/stay, or according to the place of registered residence/stay in case of cancellation
  • An application for changing the address of dwelling*2 for aliens shall be submitted at the competent police administration/police station (PU/PP) according to the place in which aliens have registered their residence/stay
  • Documents required for the registration/cancellation of aliens’ residence/stay:
    • Filled form: Registration and cancellation of stay and residence, or registration of address change (Form 8a, obtained at the PU/PP, it can also be printed from the web site)
    • One of the following documents: a foreign travel document, an alien travel document, an alien identity card, certificate on temporary retaining or seizure of a travel document, certificate on reporting a travel document as missing
    • Proof of identity, if an applicant is entering information into the Form 8a on the basis of data from the Certificate of temporary retaining or seizure of travel documents or the Certificate of reporting a travel document as missing
    • Proof*3 supporting facts on which parties base their application for the registration of residence/stay
 
  • the competent police administration/police station shall issue a certificate of registration and cancellation of stay and residence or a certificate of change of the registered address to the applicant
 

*1 NOTE: Residence refers to a place in which an alien granted permanent stay has settled with the purpose of living there, whereas stay refers to a place in which an alien granted short-term and temporary stay is staying.  

An alien granted permanent stay shall be obliged to register his/her residence and address of dwelling, as well as any change regarding his/her residence and address of dwelling within eight days from the occurred change.

An alien granted temporary stay shall be obliged to report his/her stay and address of dwelling, as well as any change regarding his/her residence and address of dwelling within three days since entering into the Republic of Croatia, or since the day on which the change regarding stay or address of dwelling has occurred.  

An alien granted short-term stay shall be obliged to report his/her stay within 48 hours since entering into the Republic of Croatia, or since changing the address of dwelling, and the change regarding the address of dwelling shall in the following cases be reported by:

  • legal and natural persons providing accommodation services to aliens – within 24 hours from the day of provided accommodation
  • legal and natural persons providing berths and boating services in a port of nautical tourism, upon alien’s embarkation on a vessel where he/she has his/her accommodation – within 12 hours from the provision of accommodation
  • every subsequent legal and natural person providing berths and boating services in a port of nautical tourism, if a vessel is at the berth longer than 6 hours – within 12 hours from arriving at the berth
  • legal and natural persons renting a vessel to an alien, when the vessel is taken into possession at the location where berth services are free of charge – within 12 hours from this vessel transfer
  • health care institutions, or health workers in the private sector admitting an alien for medical treatment – within 48 hours from the day of admittance
  • persons to whom aliens come for a visit – within 48 hours from the arrival of aliens for a visit  
 

Aliens who come on foreign vessels intended for sports and leisure and who dwell on these vessels, are obliged to register their stay to a police station competent for the state border control in a port where the border control is carried out while entering into the Republic of Croatia.

A legal and natural person who rented a vessel in the Republic of Croatia to an alien shall be obliged to, without any delay, notify a legal or natural person providing berths and boating services in a port of nautical tourism of the registration of stay.

Aliens granted short-term stay, aliens granted permanent stay and aliens granted temporary stay shall be obliged to cancel their stay or residence no later than the first day following the departure of aliens from the address of dwelling, stay or residence.

Registration, as well as cancellation of stay/residence or change of address of dwelling may be carried out in a competent police administration or police station or may be submitted electronically, by internet, following the proscribed manner.

Aliens granted short-term stay (a tourist visa of up to 90 days within 6 months), persons to whom aliens come for a visit and legal and natural persons providing accommodation services to aliens, may register aliens also through a tourist community in the area in which aliens stay and the tourist community shall be obliged to deliver this registration within 24 hours from the registration of aliens in that tourist community.  

*2 NOTE: Change of dwelling address refers only to the change of the dwelling address within the up-to-then place of residence/stay. If the registration refers to a new address in another locality, different from the up-to-then place of residence/stay, then this is a case of the change of residence/stay.

*3 NOTE: It is necessary if the applicant is registering his/her residence/stay. As a proof which stands in support of the information on which he/she founds its application for the registration of residence/stay, the applicant shall be obliged to produce the following documents:

  • title deed
  • lease deed
  • deed of purchase
  • deed of donation and similar.

Besides the above mentioned documents, a certificate on house number allocation may also be required.

It shall not be necessary to produce the mentioned documents if dwelling is ensured with legal or natural persons providing accommodation services to aliens.
