Instructions on the procedure of the issuance of work permits to aliens

First step – Competent police administration/police station  

• An employer (legal or natural person) shall submit the request for the issuance of a work permit for alien at a competent police administration/police station, according to the place of his/her seat of business.
• Beside the request for the issuance of work permit (annual quota/outside quota) an employer*2 shall attach *3 the following documents:

1. Work contract or written certificate of a concluded work contract, or some other appropriate contract.

2. Information on the work place or the type of work or the conditions of work.

4. Proof of the registration of the company, branch office, representation, sole proprietorship, association, or an institution in the Republic of Croatia (excerpts from a register should not be dated more than 6 months prior to the application).

6. Explanation of the reasons for the employment of an alien, BON No 1 (VOUCHER 2), BON No 2 (VOUCHER 2).

• The request for the issuance of the temporary stay permit for the purpose of the work of an alien, an employer shall submit at a police administration/police station at the moment of submitting the application for work permit, based on a letter of attorney. In that case the temporary stay permit shall be handed to an alien personally at the competent police administration/police station or at a Republic of Croatia diplomatic post or consular office.

*²NOTE: An employer is due to deliver to a police administration/police station a Work Contract or a similar appropriate contract not later than 15 days from the day of the issuance of  the work permit in case where a preliminary work contract has been attached to the work permit application.

*³NOTE: The documents attached to the request must be original documents or verified copies. As regards the documents written in a foreign language, they should contain also an authoritative translation into the Croatian language.

*⁴NOTE: An employer must submit the request for the work permit extension not later than 45 days before the work permit expiry date. If the request is not submitted within this period, the employer shall be subject to a misdemeanour sanction.

Second step – Competent police administration/police station  

• Police administration/police station makes a decision that is delivered to the employer.

Third step – Payment at a Post Office/FINA (Financial Agency)/Bank

• If the request was granted, the amount of 300.00 shall be paid for the alien's work permit at a Post Office/FINA/Bank by a payment slip to the account of the Republic of Croatia National Budget obtained at a competent police administration/police station (for).

Fourth step – Competent police administration/police station

• Upon the producing of the proof of payment of 300.00 HRK for the issuance of a work permit, a competent police administration/police station shall hand to the employer the alien's work permit issued in a form of a decision.
• Work permit shall be issued for a limited period of time in line with the period of time for which an employment has been established, which may not be longer than 1 year.
